The Service

The short version.

Most of the families we serve use insurance to cover their child's ABA. Some families choose private pay instead — because they want a faster start, because their plan does not cover ABA the way they need, because they value the privacy of keeping their child's diagnosis out of their insurance records, or because they have HSAs and FSAs they want to use. Private pay families receive the same clinical care, the same supervision standards as every other family we serve. The only differences are the speed of starting and the freedom to shape services without insurance restrictions.

What It Looks Like

What it actually looks like.

01

Faster start.

No prior authorization. No carrier approval timeline. We can begin assessment within days, not weeks.

02

More flexibility.

Session hours and service types can be tailored to your child's needs without insurance medical-necessity limits.

03

Privacy.

Your child’s diagnosis and treatment plan stay between us and you. Nothing is documented in your insurance records.

04

HSA and FSA eligible.

Most ABA private pay rates can be paid through Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. We provide all required documentation.

We did not want our daughter's diagnosis documented through insurance. Private pay gave us care and privacy at the same time.

This is for

Families whose insurance does not include ABA coverage. Families who have hit insurance authorization limits and want to continue services. Families who value privacy and prefer not to document their child’s care through insurance. Families with HSAs or FSAs they want to use. Families who want maximum flexibility in scheduling and service intensity. Families outside our three-state coverage who want to access our telehealth team.

Transparent Pricing

Rates discussed openly. No surprises.

We do not publish exact rates on this page because pricing varies by state, by service intensity, by clinical needs, and by your family's circumstances. We do publish exact rate sheets to every family during their free consultation call. You know the numbers before you commit to anything.

Hybrid Models

Some families do both.

Sometimes private pay works alongside insurance through a single-case agreement (SCA). If your insurance does not cover ABA but you have appealed and won partial coverage, we can structure a hybrid where insurance covers part and you pay the rest. We help you build the model that fits your family.

A Real Story

A real story.

a private pay family

A Maryland family did not want their daughter's autism diagnosis to live in her insurance file. They chose private pay through House of Hearts and started care within a week of their consultation call. Their care coordinator built a service plan tailored to their daughter's schedule, including telehealth supervision so both parents could participate.

They used their HSA for some hours and paid out of pocket for the rest. Their daughter has been in care for eighteen months. Her file lives only with House of Hearts. They have no regrets.

An Honest Note

If this is not the right fit.

Private pay is not the right fit for families who need extensive weekly hours of ABA and would be financially better served by using their insurance. Paying out of pocket for high-intensity hours rarely makes sense when a plan would cover them.

Private pay is also not the right path for families whose state Medicaid fully covers ABA, because there is no reason to pay out of pocket for a service your state covers. During your free consultation we will tell you honestly which path is right for your family. If insurance is better, we will say so.

Questions families ask first

Pulled from calls and everyday families.
How much does private pay ABA cost at House of Hearts?

Rates vary by state, by service intensity, and by your child’s clinical needs, so we do not post a single number. We share an exact rate sheet during your free consultation call, before you commit to anything. No surprises.

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for private pay ABA?

Yes. Most ABA private pay rates are eligible for Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts, and we provide all the documentation your account administrator requires. Many families combine HSA/FSA funds with out-of-pocket payment.

Do I need an autism diagnosis to start private pay?

No. Private pay does not require an autism diagnosis to begin. Without a diagnosis we can deliver supportive services like parent coaching, consultation, and early-intervention focused work. If you are interested in formal ABA treatment, a diagnosis from a licensed clinician is the clinical foundation — and if you do not have one yet, we can refer you to a diagnostic partner.

Can I switch from private pay to insurance later if my situation changes?

Yes. Many families start private pay for speed or privacy and later move to insurance, or run a hybrid. Your care coordinator helps you transition without interrupting your child’s care.

Do you offer payment plans for private pay families?

Yes. We offer payment plans and will build something workable around your family’s circumstances. We would rather find a structure that works than lose a child who needs care.

Is the clinical care any different from insurance-covered care?

No. Same triple-vetted BCBAs, same supervision standards, same care coordinator, same written treatment plan. The only differences are how fast you start and how freely services can be structured.
